Things You Should Know About Hypnosis
What does hypnosis feel like?
-Hypnosis actually isn’t a feeling! It is a state of mind, one that can feel rather subtle, so don’t feel alone in wondering if you’re doing it right the first time. Being in hypnosis can feel like deep relaxation and effortless openness, though it doesn’t HAVE to for it to work.
Can I be hypnotized?
-I get this question a lot, in several different forms. Many people have tried it before, to no avail, whether it was in a group setting, at a school presentation, or just at a totally different part of life, nothing really HAPPENED. And that’s absolutely okay. A lot of us have logistical minds that are not easily slowed down or redirected. Ultimately, if you can follow instructions, you can be hypnotized successfully. Humans are sensitive, sensory creatures. We take this into mind as a priority when setting the stage for successful hypnosis work at Evernew.
Is hypnosis mind control?
-Sure is not. You are always in control. That means you won’t tell me anything you don’t want to share with me, you won’t do anything you don’t want to do, I won’t be able to see anything within your subconscious mind that you don’t describe for me. If you need to scratch an itch, cough or adjust your body you can and it won’t affect the hypnosis in the slightest. You can even ask to go get a blanket or ask to use the bathroom if you need to. It would be better for you to tell me you need to use the restroom than allow it to distract you during the session.
What will I remember from our sessions?
-Everything! You will be conscious and aware the entire time. This means you will hear and remember everything I say unless your mind wanders for a few seconds or even a few minutes.
I have a very active, distracted mind. Is that okay?
-Absolutely. Honestly, that’s the nature of the human mind. Your mind is bound to wander, even when you’re in hypnosis. Don’t worry about it, when you notice your mind has wandered gently invite it back into what’s happening in your here and now with your most patient kindness. Know that you WILL get better at focusing with every session- it’s in our nature as human beings to do better with practice.
What if I fall asleep?
-I’ll wake you up! Gently. It’s not uncommon for folks to fall asleep if they’re feeling deeply relaxed and comfortable, but it is a rule at Evernew to wake clients up immediately otherwise it will be a very expensive nap. If you ever hear me use the word Sleep during our sessions, it just means go deeply relaxed as if you were asleep with your eyes closed.
Can I get stuck in hypnosis?
-Nope! You would just naturally fall asleep (and then woken up by me) or emerge yourself after a period of time.
Does hypnosis work like a truth serum?
-Nope! You don’t have to worry about telling me any deep dark secrets, but if something personal comes up for you and you need to tell me, please do so I can help you. If you don’t tell me things, I may not be able to help you since I’m not a mind-reader.
Your Responsibility
Have a general positive attitude while in hypnosis.
You don’t want to be hypnotizing yourself against what I am doing.
Try easy.
Otherwise stated don’t try too hard. Less effort is desirable. Your job is just to focus on my words.
Know that this is going to be a process.
And feel grounded in that! You’re reading this because you’ve decided you’re willing to do the work. You’re not coming to me for something that happened overnight, right?
